How To Keep Yourself Looking Young

June 19, 2013

You can keep yourself looking young only by taking great care of yourself.  That includes nutrition, exercise and maintenance.

You know the song…here a tweak, there a tweak…

Eyes

You bought this great dress.  Fit you perfectly.  Took it home, tried it on, got in front of the mirror and….wait a minute.  Something’s not right.  You look again.  Why do I feel like my  face doesn’t belong with this body.  Am I too old for this dress?  It’s not too short!

You look closer…It’s the eyes, one of the first indicators of facial aging.  There is excess skin on the upper lid that makes your eyes almost look sad.  It’s making you look older than your years.

I’ve seen the before and after photos from removal of upper eyelid excess skin.  It’s so dramatic.  You immediately look ten years younger.  The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes.  You sit in a reclining chair (like a dentist chair).  Only having a tooth filled is way more uncomfortable than having the excess skin removed from your eyelid.

That’s it…you go home and do some icing and rest for the day.  No jogging or gym allowed.  Some doctors use dissolvable sutures.  So the checkup is two weeks later.

Cost is around $4000. for the procedure.  If the droopy skin is affecting your peripheral vision you may be able to get the procedure done for free.

Teeth

If you’re not whitening your teeth then they are getting discolored.

This also takes years off your age.  Nothing like a big, bright smile to charm the world.  And, the pricetag on this is so small.  You can buy the Crest Whitestrips at CVS.  They work.  $25.

You can have impressions made at a dental office and get the bleaching agent in syringes for several hundred dollars.  This works even better.

Face

Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize! When I was in my twenties, an older woman told me not to forget my neck when moisturizing my face.  I’m so grateful.

My personal favorites are  Ester Lauder Time Zone and Lancome Visionnaire.  Oil of Olay products and Avon were the earlier moisturizers.   They have serious science behind them today and work quite well at a lower cost.

Always use an SPF of 30 or more.  I usually use SPF 70 on my face.  We need to protect ourselves from skin cancer.  The sun is also the biggest ager of our skin. Who wants wrinkles?

Hair

If you are coloring or highlighting your hair you need to have a shampoo that doesn’t strip the color, and a conditioner that makes it feel silky.  My faves are Redken Color Extend for shampoo and Hyashi’s 911 Emergency Pak for my conditioner.  I’ve been using both for almost 10 years and I won’t switch.   I use a Goldwell’s Kerasilk to keep my hair from getting frizzy in the humid weather.  This is a new product that I love.

Body

Always moisturize after showers or baths.  I’ve been using Vaseline Intensive Care lotion since I was 16 years old.  The products have kept up with the times.  They now offer several lotions including an Aloe Fresh hydrating lotion and an Intensive Rescue repairing moisture lotion, etc.  Don’t forget the underside of your arms which tend to get neglected and get those dry bumps.

Never thought I’d be writing a blog like this, but I guess it’s all about sharing .

I’m not single and dating but these are good suggestions. A couple of them I already do, a couple I need to be better about! Thanks.
