Let’s Talk About Bikini Waxes: Comic Relief?

May 23, 2013

I realize that my last blog was a little bit heavy so I thought a little comic relief was in order.  Not that bikini waxes are funny.  At least not when you’re the one on the table and your esthetician is Russian. (That was the scenario in Sex And The City).  I personally have never had a Russian esthetician.  But I have had an Armenian and they can be tough too.

And ladies, this blog is arriving in the nick of time (especially if you decide to shave instead).  The Memorial Day weekend is descending upon us.  It’s bikini weather and time to ramp up our personal hygiene.  Just because “it’s a jungle out there,” doesn’t mean it has to be a jungle down there!

When I began my limited research, I was led to believe that men under the age of 30 preferred no pubic hair on women and conversely men over 30 preferred hair.  But, as more data was collected, I concluded that it is a preference unrelated to age.

Now, there are several options/styles of bikini waxes with a fee ranging from $40. to $85. Or if you go to the Ooh La La Boutique you may pay upwards of $100. (There is no such boutique, but you know what I mean.)

  • Regular-just outside the panty line
  • French – everything but lips (kind of like a goatee)
  • Brazilian – no hair (smooth like a baby’s butt or porn star)
  • Landing strip – vertical, pencil-thin line (The Final Approach)
  • Triangle – sometimes called the Bermuda Triangle
  • Heart shape – a Valentine’s Day present for your sweetheart

Some estheticians swear by hot wax (most do) which is removed by a special strip of paper.  Others use the hard wax which is hot initially, but hardens as it cools (in seconds) and lifts up in one piece.  I find that the hard wax hurts less.  They both leave you silky smooth.

Unanimous opinion is that impeccable hygiene is what wins overall.   Just like Altoids, keep it “curiously refreshing.”
