Today was the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. A day where we celebrate the effort and achievement of runners from all around the globe. It is a testament of the human spirit and all the qualities we possess such as perseverance, motivation, endurance, honor… We come together as one with respect for all participants.
What happened today to spoil this joyful day is so horrific. Innocent lives have been forever shattered. The bombs that were planted and detonated destroyed the event. Runners who trained hard for this day have been cheated out of their “moment.” For most runners it has been a lifelong dream. No one should have their dreams shattered by a senseless act of terror.
Friends and family came to support their loved ones. On the sidelines they were filled with hope, love and pride. They were cheering with all their hearts and voices. Some of their lives are forever changed. Some left the marathon on stretchers, in wheelchairs, and limping over to the medical tents. Some are now amputees. Three lives were lost, including one child.
We are all wondering when will these violent acts stop? Can a world filled with so many wonderful, loving people be ruined by a few extremists?
I know we are a resilient people. Our spirit will never be broken.
God grant us strength enough to move forward from this moment, and keep our hearts filled with love.
I’ll end with the words of John Lennon:
“Imagine all the people sharing life in peace
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one,
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one”

Denise: You have captured just what we have all been feeling. Most of the people in the world are spending their energy to celebrate the joys of life, not to tear down those things we all value and create more pain, terror and unhappiness. What a waste.
Thanks for your comment Nancy. As usual, your words are chosen with such clarity and empathy.

I was so angry that day. So tired of the violence. But I know there are so many beautiful, loving, people all around us sharing our vision. We are lucky!!! Together is the only way!!! xo
